Well, we've go the official spring. Yup, we have trees in blossom. Just the temperature is...

Traditional hot pot

My dear Japanese friend is far more skillful in dipping the food in the pot.

Hot pot (火锅 huǒ guō) consists of a pot in which is boiling water. While the hot pot is kept simmering, fresh veggies, meat, mushrooms, eggs, seafood are put into the pot. The cooked food is usually eaten with a dipping sauce.

In winter cold days, there's nothing like hot pot to warm you up. There are different kinds of hot pot in China. But no matter what kind you're having it's a unique experience.

Back to Tianjin...

I'm back here at school for almost two weeks. And it's still cold. Well, it's not VERY cold, but still..
Lately I'm busy following the Japan situation, namely regarding the nuclear radiation. People here are panic-buying salt. I just went to the local market to but some veggies and saw the empty shelf where the salt was sold before. I mean, eating salt can save you???
Reading all the news online, my family is worried too.
I just hope I don't have to leave soon.
I'm praying for the people affected by the quake. My heart goes to Japan.

Five Rams Stone Sculpture
There is a legend about the Five Rams Stone Sculpture: once upon a time, there were five immortals came to Guangzhou from the South China Sea. Their clothes were in five colors and they were riding on five rams in different colors. In the mouth of each of the rams there was a straw of paddy with six rice heads. The immortals sent the paddy to the local residents and wish them free from famine for ever. After that the immortals flied away while the five rams were left and turned into stone rams.

It seems the spring arrives earlier in GZ. These photos are taken in February.

Buckwheat buns

Jing Jiang Rou si (Sauteed Shredded Pork in Sweet Bean Sauce) (Wiki) is traditional meal in North China, but I had this in Guangzhou, (South Ch.). The taste is more or the same. The only difference, in GZ, the meal was served with tiny pancakes, not with tofu wrap.

I wasn't feeling well the last 2 weeks, got a bad cold, terrible cough. But I'm better now. Hope I visit you more often.

The taste, well, a mix of apple, plum, pear. I liked it. It's quite juicy.

I'm back in TJ. Back to school, back to cold weather.
