Traditional hot pot

My dear Japanese friend is far more skillful in dipping the food in the pot.

Hot pot (火锅 huǒ guō) consists of a pot in which is boiling water. While the hot pot is kept simmering, fresh veggies, meat, mushrooms, eggs, seafood are put into the pot. The cooked food is usually eaten with a dipping sauce.

In winter cold days, there's nothing like hot pot to warm you up. There are different kinds of hot pot in China. But no matter what kind you're having it's a unique experience.

Bon apetit!

Eating in Guangzhou 2

Buckwheat buns

Jing Jiang Rou si (Sauteed Shredded Pork in Sweet Bean Sauce) (Wiki) is traditional meal in North China, but I had this in Guangzhou, (South Ch.). The taste is more or the same. The only difference, in GZ, the meal was served with tiny pancakes, not with tofu wrap.

Some local salad

I wasn't feeling well the last 2 weeks, got a bad cold, terrible cough. But I'm better now. Hope I visit you more often.

Have a lovely day!

Eating in Guangzhou

Tasty buns with filling made from some meat and vegetables.

Never seen them in Beijing, nor Tianjin. I can't tell if they are only local to Guangdong.

Century eggs are eggs perserved in mixture of clay, ash, salt, lime, and rice hulls for several weeks to several months. Through the process, the yolk becomes a dark green to grey colour, with a creamy consistency and an odor of sulphur and ammonia, while the white becomes a dark brown, transparent jelly. (Wiki)

I was told not to eat many of these. I didn't like the smell, though.

White cut chiken is a Cantonese dish (this was brownish, though).

Roast goose neck. It's Guangdong (Cantonese) special dish, but I not to my taste.

Zongzi is a traditional Chinese food, made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves. They are cooked by steaming or boiling. These were, I guess, filled with salted pork.

I'm leaving Guangzhou in two days. I had amazing time here, enjoying the warm (and hot)weather, enjoying the green enviroment. As for the food, I guess I'm used to Tianjin's, the Cantonese cuisine is a bit sweeter than the one up north. I mean, it's all habit.
Have a lovely start to new week and month!

Enjoying a festive winter outing

Bing jiang Dao: Tianjin's Walking Street (滨江道), hundreds of stores on one long walking street. This is the place to go shopping in Tianjin. There are stores here that sell nearly every kind of clothing, shoes, jewelry, watches, and accessories. Large malls, department stores, street vendors..But it can get noisy and so tiring with all the people shouting out things they sell in the shops.

There is a great food alley where you can get Chinese, Korean, Japanese snack, skewered food, squids, hot soup, all sorts of tasty snacks.

I especially liked the skewered lamb. Honestly, I didn't like lamb that much before. But this spiced skewered lamp is just too tasty. I couldn't resist.

Tianjin Eye is a 120-metre (390 ft) tall giant Ferris wheel built in 2008. It is claimed to be the only such wheel to have been constructed over a bridge.

Chinese people don't really celebrate this New Year because they have Spring Festival, which like a Chinese New Year. (will post about it later, in few weeks.)
But they like western holidays, go shopping, enjoying the festive atmosphere.

Apart from being freezing cold, I spent a lovely day.

Well I'm on a diet, I guess

I miss Macedonian food. My mom cooking, tasty cheese, fresh-baked pies, delicious bread and proper CHOCOLATE.

Today I had one of those bad days when I really miss home food. The meals that I had today were awful. Don't get me wrong I love Chinese food, but today I just picked the wrong dishes. The lunch was in our canteen, it looked good, so I picked that one. And that's it, just LOOKED good. Grhhh.

The dinner - ahhh. I went to the other canteen, the girl at the counter misheard me (I hate when this happens), so I got something else. It was too late to change it, cos the canteen was closing, so I threw it away. Again. I feel bad when throwing food. What could have I done? I tried it , but it was tasteless.

Went to the local shop, bought some small pies, and yogurt. Oh, the yogurt is sweet in China. I don't like it at all. I want real SOUR one.

Well, I can always say, I'm on a diet. I don't need too much food, right?!
