my Hongkong visit

I visited Hongkong last Sunday. It was tiring but it was worth it. HK streets are kaleidoscope of life, colors, sounds...

We only had 10 hours to see it.

I love these cute trams.

No visit to HK is complete without a trip to see the view from Victora Peak.

The peak tram ride was quite a fun.

The Symphony of Lights is staged every night at 8 pm. It's the largest light and music show in the world. But as I was so looking forward to seeing it, I'm a little bit disappointed. The night laser from the skyscapers didn't present the dazzling light. It's still a pretty nice thing to do.

Bye bye HK. Hope to see you again. One day. For a couple of days, at least.

Safe and sound

It's been more than 10 days no posts. Where has the past week gone?
I'm now in Guangzhou for the winter holidays.

My train ride from Tianjin was really long (26 hours) but when you're mentally ready, you can survive.

I practiced my Chinese with the students going back to their hometowns.

See the upper bed? That's the third level, and you need to be skillful to get up there.

I had the middle one. :))

The railway stations in China are full, especially before the Spring Festival.

What I really admire is their waiting. Such patience!

Leaving TJ...

I'm leaving Tianjin for some time. It's winter holidays, so it's time for fun, traveling, adventures. I'm off to GZ, South China. I won't be so cold there. Can't wait for some warm weather.

Wish me luck on my 26-hour train ride.

C is for colorful Chinese culture

Well, China. I lived in Tianjin, China for a year. I studied at Nankai University as a general scholar.

So, here are some of the pictures from my travels.

Let's start with the food. A local market.


Some of the street food which was not very good-looking, but tasty!




Boiled vegetables in a sauce. Very very delicious. Cabbage, Chinese mushrooms, peppers, meat (or vegetable) balls.


Caramelized fruit on a stick (haw?). We don't have such in Macedonia, so I never knew what it really was. Too sweet for me!


A souvenir shop. Tianjin is famous for its clay figurines.



Great wall, Beijing. Stairs, stairs, stairs. And a breathtaking view over! I climbed up that tower.





Chinese New Year decorations.

A play on words:

In Chinese, saying Fu dao le means "luck or fortune has arrived". But the word "dao" can also imply to fall down or turn upside-down. So, literally turning the character 福, fu, upside-down is a play on words implying fortune has arrived. Interesting, huh?
